Being able to carry out structural, physical, and chemical analysis on precursors and then any new materials developed is fundamental to material science.
This analysis allows researchers to:
- Understand material properties
- Quality control and analyse failure rates
- Carry out material degradation and corrosion studies
- Authenticate materials so they can be specifically described
- Develop new materials and technologies and understand how these have been synthesised for future commercialisation
- Assess environmental impact of materials and their production or destruction
- Troubleshoot material issues
PI-KEM can supply a wide range of MTI equipment that has applications for material analysis from the basics of lab balances through to the complex TGA furnaces.
High Throughput Characterisation
- Hardness Testing Systems: These use the through internet viewing (TIV) method. Diamond indenters are pressed into the substrate and the indentation depth is optically measured giving immediate, accurate results
- Resistivity Testers: Portable, multi-function instruments that measure radial and axial resistivity of semiconductor sheets and blocks
- XRF Scanning System: Non-destructive energy dispersive system that analyses composition

High Temperature Strength & Creeping Testing
- High Temperature Creeping Tester: Tests the high-temperature mechanical strength of materials via a small, punched disc
- Digital Tensile Tester: For testing the tensile strength of thin foils, electrode strips and metallic wires

Thermal Gravimetric Analysis
- Muffle Furnace with TGA Function: Allows phase transition analysis of oxide compounds up to 1700 °C
- Tube Furnace with TGA Function: Allows phase transition analysis of materials under a controlled atmosphere up to 1500 °C. Can be used for small sample annealing and sintering
- TGA Furnace: Industrial scale analysis with the option of vacuum, hydrogen, or controlled gas atmosphere up to 1700 °C. Allows the research of phase transition during material processing. Optional gas analysis device for gas composition studies
